Here's my bowls so far. I just got my lathe last month and wanted to try out a bowl. I've had some wood lathe training in shop class some 30 years ago and have been around a lot of other machines, So I'm not a total noob.

Anyway, My first try is the pine one built from laminated pine shelf boards cut out and glued.

The next is the same idea with maple.

The third is Purple Heart and maple. Gotta say I love this bowl.

Looks like a mighty fine start and a great progression. I wish my first bowls looked that nice.

Its hard to tell from the photos, but it looks like your wall thickness begins to widen near the top and tapers to the bottom of the bowl. If so, you might want to try to maintain a uniform thickness until you get closer to the bottom.

Very nice especially the maple! What finish did you use?

Each to his own, but I'd prefer a much smaller base. Was there a functional reason for the large base?

Looking forward to seeing your ongoing work!
