Just was on a scroll sawing site and they had a person write in a mind teaser that I thought was very good. I had to share and I give credit to the person on top of the quote.

You saw a shirt for $97. You did not have the cash, so you borrowed $50 from your Mom and $50 from your Dad.

$50 + $50 - $100.

You bought the shirt, and had $3 left over in change. You gave you Mom $1 and your Dad $1 and you kept $1 for yourself.
now you owe your Mom $49 and your Dad $49,

$49 + $49 = $98 + Your $1 = $99

Now the interesting question ... where is the missing dollar?

You won't have the extra dollar.

If you pay both $1.00 previously, then $49.00 later = $50.00 x2 = $100 borrowed.

Or another way to look at it. You pay out $49 + $49 =$98, minus the dollar saved = $97.00. The cost of the shirt.

You borrowed $50 from Mom and Dad. You now have a $100 bill that you give to the clerk. You get $3 back. You give Mom and Dad $1 so now you borrowed $49 each plus the $1 you kept is $99

By the way the shirt is an IAP Tee shirt:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

Nice try, but the logic is simply convoluted.

At the end, you are left holding a shirt worth $97 (if it is an IAP shirt that is) and a dollar bill -- that's $98 total which is the amount that you still owe mum & dad.

If you pay Mom and Dad back a $1.50 each and nothing to you. Now you owe them $48.50 the cost of the shirt split 2 ways:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

Even though that IAP shirt is worth more than that. That is a deal.:biggrin::biggrin:
