Maple Leaf, turned from Maple, pierced and airbrushed. Around 6" (15cm) across. Finished with waterborne lacquer. Created as part of a public demo at The Woodworking Shows to promote the artistic side of woodturning and the local woodturning clubs of Connecticut and Massachusetts.

Thanks everyone

That is awesome, I can't even imagine how you would turn that.

Turn a bowl, then carve away everything that is not a leaf

Wow! Unique! You could start a collection of leaves in a series! How many piercings in this piece?

I can't imagine counting, it is all done freeform.

It is hard to say how long this took, I spent 3 days at The Woodworking Show when they recently came to New England and did the piercing for this as well as pyrography on another piece that is currently undergoing finishing. I spent more time talking to the public than embellishing, but I suspect that if the weather was nice I could sit in the driveway, pierce, sand and airbrush this in an afternoon.

It's a beauty! Like the shape and piercings, reminds me of the skeleton of a leaf. It has very nice colors, very pleasing to the eyes. Excellent job!
