This is made of big leaf maple burl for the bowl the top is Koa and the knob is bocote. It is made as a kitchen salt cellar/bowl so it is only 3 1/2" diameter & 1 3/4" high. A walnut oil finish was used.

How much does the walnut oil darken the wood? Or was the burl piece pretty dark to start with?

The little inset for the lid is the perfect touch....something I would have forgot to do:wink:

Thanks for the kind comments.
The walnut oil gives a golden tone to the wood, big leaf maple is a bit on the brown side compared to most maples. I have one most of the way done that is all Hawaiian wood Lychee bowl, & Macadamia lid. I have not decided of the knob yet maybe pheasant wood.
