How did you go about this if you don't mind me asking? We recently had a 3' diameter Elm taken down and I left 6' of stump standing. My daughter wanted me to carve it into an owl but having never done that, I'm going to flatten a large recess, carve columns that are "supporting" the recess and then carve our address into the flat area but don't have the slightest idea how to carve our address with a router.

its quite easy, the way i do it is to print what i want then using carbon paper copy it onto the material (dont use too elaborate fonts) then cut out free hand using a small size router with a "v" groove cutter, check out new yankee workshop on sign making theres possibly a video on youtube.
