I've turned bowls, spindles, vases and of course pens, but I've been wanting to try my hand at a lidded box. Tonight I did using poplar. It's nothing special, but I got my technique down for the next one. :D LOML wants a bigger one... this one measures 1 3/4" diam X 2 3/4" high. She said, "What can you do with that?!" I told her she could put earings or other such things in it... instead of what I was thinking. ;) I hit a catch on the underside of the lid. :( "Slow down, don't be so aggressive stupid!", I says to myself. I would have lost too much material to turn it out, so I just left it. Hey, it's my first one. I'm surprised it looks as good as it does. [:I]

Great start Billy. Tell the Mrs. that it is a custom designed toothpick holder.
You'll find these little guys can be addictive too. I like turning boxes, even though I've only done a few I've got lots of ideas floating around in my head (they've got lots of room) for more of them.
If you make some that don't turn out real good you can always use them in the shop for bushing holders.
