Sweet upgrade! You will enjoy that for sure!

I too have an older Nova 16/24. It has the 8 step pulleys but also has the variable speed control, brake and reverse. I bought it used. It is a very good lathe for the size and price point.

Is it wrong to love your lathe?.......there are worse things you could get into!
As long as your wife (if you're married) is still #1, you should be safe!

That is the upgrade that I would like one day to be able to afford to do. It has been in my cards bundle for some time now, one day...!

Considering the price difference of these machines here in Australia, I'm very surprised that, they have come down in price, I purchased mine at the Adelaide Royal Wood-Show in 2007 for AU$1,750 the XP was about AU$3,500 I have seen them being sold recently for under AU$1,500 and AU$3,000 respectively, they are cheaper in the USA but, the last time I asked for a price on a upgrade XP head for the 1624-44, I was told USD$1,769.59, that's over 2G's in Oz money...! too expensive..!

Good luck with it...!

Cheers
George
