OK, so I got my "new to me" Jet 1236 into the basement, but I am puzzled by something.

Using the drill chuck in the Shopsmith, I never needed the 'morse taper' that was attached to that first mandrel.

Now, when I try to put that mandrel into the Jet, the mandrel taper is much smaller than the hole in the Jet! I know the taper/mandrel I got was "supposed" to be a #2, and the Jet advertises being #2...

The mandrel and taper fit into the hole, but it goes in very deep, it won't allow using the full lenght of the mandrel.

Do I need something else?

Pictures to follow, when I get home, I'll combine my question with my GLOAT! :D

I have a Jet 1236 and it is a MT2. The one on your drill chuck is probably a JT2, a Jacobs taper. You will need an adapter for it.

I know that my MT2 drill chuck doesn't get seated COMPLETELY into the lathe spindle - it goes in quite a ways, but there is some sticking out at the end...doesn't affect the operation of mine, but it depends how far it sticks out, I suppose...

Pictures would be helpful!
