I couldn't help myself

I kept moving this little piece of figured Walnut around and every time I picked it up thinking it would make a nice cane handle, so I wore myself down until I gave in and made another. I already made my folks 2 and have no idea what I'm gonna do with it. But I was right, it makes a nice handle. Its hard to make out in the pics but in the second one there is a grain pattern that works as a spear point aiming straight at the handle. My pictures don't really do it justice.

Between turning pens and canes I don't know when I'm ever gonna try out my new bowl gouges I got for Christmas.

Yes I turn them. For me I found that using a skew worked the best. Very sharp and light cuts. I tend to work the ends first so as to leave the center with the most mass for last. I start out with a 1" skew and when I get to final size I switch to a 1/2" skew for smaller delicate cuts. I usually don't have much whipping until I get under 1" diameter, then it gets real touchy.

The handles are all done by hand though with rasps, micrplanes and sandpaper.

care to share your handle to staff attachment process on this beauty?

I used a 1/2" x 4" dowel to join the handle to the shaft. The shaft is 1" in diameter where the joint is so I thought 1/2" should be ok. Drilled 2" into the shaft and 1 3/4" into the handle, plus there is the 1/4" Maple accent piece.
