I'm just now getting into pen turning. In fact, I have not yet made my first pen. I'm 65 and have been an amateur woodworker all my life, but only recently have I discovered the world of wood turning in general, and even more recently have I discovered pen turning in particular. I'm really looking forward to getting involved in this highly interesting craft and with this forum.

Welcome Steven, from far west Kentucky, to the addiction, sometimes referred to as the vortex. Be sure to give the library a good bit of time. The link is at the top of the page. You will find an article called Library Index. This covers tutorials on about anything pen making you can think of. You will also notice that there are articles listed by year. Much good info there as well. When these fail to answer your questions, by all means post it here. I have never seen one go unanswered very long. You might also want to give this thread a good look. It has some very good info for the beginning pen turner; http://content.penturners.org/library/general_reference/Getting_started_in_pen_turning.pdf. Grab some wood, make some shavings and have fun all the while being safe.

Welcome to the world of penturning. There is no better place to learn about pen turning than the IAP and if you have any questions, someone is sure to have the answer. But be forwarned, it is very addictive.

Welcome Steven from up north (Bossier City).:)
There a few good turners in your area that may be able to provide some guidance. This site is the best for learning pen making. The library is a gret place, almost too much information. Just take it in small bites. :)

Welcome Steven from Washington state.... as others have stated, get ready to just leave you wallet at the wood turning supply store. It truly is an addictive craft/art. Every time I go out to clean my shop, I typically will celebrate all that cleanliness by turning another pen... so in a sense, nothing as far as cleaning gets done.
