Here are several pics of one of the bowls I turned at an Ashley Harwood workshop that our woodturning club sponsored.
This cherry bowl was turned green to finish and employed the push cut as being taught by Ashley. It was cut from the log "bark down" hence the sapwood at the bottom of the bowl. I turned a curve on the top edge and then did an undercut leaving a thicker rim than the wall thickness.
You can see how the bowl is moving as it is drying. This really adds to the natural feel and flow of the bowl.
It had one coat of walnut oil at the time of these pics. I am now adding a couple of coats of tung oil finish to give it a soft sheen.
It finished at 10" diameter and stands 3.5" tall.

Here is the other bowl from the workshop.

Very Nice Charlie! It's amazing how bowls will move when turned green! It sure give them lots of character.

nice bowl i have heard of issues when turning green bowls out of cherry with lots of sapwood. that tends to cause cracks. i'm glad your green turned bowl survived since it is thin enough.

so if you decide to rough turn cherry leave just a tiny amount of sapwood.
