Goose neck hollower

I purchased a goose neck hollower and while the tool itself is very nice, the two ends that came with it seemed dull. I have never used one of these before so I am not sure if you need to sharpen them or not. The bullet end was the one that did not seem to want to cut. Maybe I am using it wrong. It always looks easy when you watch someone on T.V. using one. Any suggestions?

Very few tools come "Sharp"-----can we see a pic of the cutter?

Ditto what Gary said. What does the manufacturer say about it? Most will tell you if a new tool is shipped sharpened or not.
Why not just try sharpening?

Thanks guys. I appreciate the help. I will try sharpening it. It has a steel cutter not a carbide tipped one. I'll see what kind of an edge I can get on it.

If that is the the Swan Neck Hollower from Sorby then you can go the their website and they show how to sharpen it. You use a diamond file and run it across the top flat surface.

I had emailed Sorby about some of their Hollowing tools. They offered advice and sent me a free catelog and CD/DVD that shows how to use and sharpen some of the tools.
