Good Price for Drills bits

We had to run to the big city of Louisville today on a buying trip. We do this a couple times a year to restock on everything from hand cleaner to saw blades.
Here's a some Drill bits I bought ---All are Titanium coated HSS.
The big set runs in 64ths up to 1/2 inch ---Cost $18.75
The small set is 17 pieces and cost $6.95
They had a baggie of 29 mis drills for $5.00 and I picked them up also
This is my ideal of shopping for drills without breaking the bank
Total # of Drill bits 75---cost $30.60

I have been buying bits from them for years but that's coming to a stop.
I buy the size I need----most of the time they come 5 to a pack.
One bit will last about 20 to 30 pens and then I toss it-----they just don't have a good cutting edge and the steel is cheap.
After using some of the better American made bits-----that's the route I am going.
I will blow up less blanks and the bit seems to last forvever.
I will still keep some of the China junk around to drill pilot holes with. Plus there are the blanks that have dirt and rocks to deal with.

they have the low grade HSS bits but also have a step or two higher grade bit. still pretty good prices on those. then they go all the way up to solid carbon bits. $24.55 for a 1/4 inch bit. yikes.

Gary, sharpening drill bits is easy.

I do it by hand on a grinding wheel

Heck Ron I keep telling myself that I am going to break down and buy a Drill Doctor.

Daniel ---you really don't have to pay that kind of money for a real good drill bit. Of course you can if you want to.

Heck Gary, you don't need a drill doctor, just some practice doing it by hand.

Just remember to keep the cutting edge high with the bevel sloping downward.

Try it on your next dull drill bit and follow the bevel.

I need to figure something out---it's been less than two weeks and two of the drill bits are dull--dilling nothing but wood pen blanks. Bits are smoking the wood.
Made in China Gold Tin drill bits-----------100% junk------but I got a bargain????????

Tell you what,

Save up a bunch of bits and then I'll pay shipping and you can send them to me and I'll sharpen them and use them

While some folks have the ability to sharpen bits by hand I do not. I use a drill doctor to sharpen my bits and I use jigs to sharpen my lathe tools. I would highly recommend that you get a drill doctor and you'll see how nice it is to use sharp bits.

I am thinking more in the line of----buy good drill bits and a Drill Doc----They have them on sale over a Amazon sometimes.
