I make a lot of segmented blanks, but as I haven't found a way to comfortably cut small pieces of wood with my miter saw, I've been using a miter box and a Japanese draw saw. Recently the miterbox has gotten chewed to the point where I was cutting wedges rather than slices, so I decided to invest in one of those little metal miter box. Unfortunately the slots on it are too narrow to accommodate my favorite hand saw, so I tried using the one that came with. The problem was that that the handle was too short for me to get any kind of power with it. My husband suggested that I turn a new one. So I did, out of some lignum vitae that I had lying around. The new handle is a bit thinner than optimal, but still works better than the original (beside it on the pic)
