I have a chance to buy a nice used variable speed floor drill press but I want to make sure I'll be able to drill all my blanks with it.

I'm looking to get into the Sierra type single tube pens but I'm not sure how long the blanks need to be to allow the tube length plus extra for trimming.

This drill press has 3 1/4 inches of spindle travel per the manual. Will it be OK or should I look for one with more?

Thanks!

Mitch I just measured a Sierra and the barrel is 2 1/4" finished length. I also measured a Polaris and it's approx. 3" so ad 1/4" to that. You should be good.
