My daughter came over yesterday and we made her an American fountain pen (titanium-gold) out of some birdseye maple. She picked out the blank and helped with the sanding/polishing. I finished this pen with de-waxed blond shellac. She was pretty happy with the outcome. This was my first pen with a 2-piece barrel. the others have been Sierras and Atlas's:

Thanks Barry, I used two coats of 2 lb cut shellac (Zinsser Sealcoat) as a sanding sealer. I sanded starting with 400 grit to 12000 MM then applied a coat of BLO. I wiped that off and applied several coats of shellac then rubbed that out to 12000 MM. I applied a coat of Ren wax and called it a day.
