first complete pen.

well here is the first pen from this castaway box trip. this is the first one i chose from the box. i had to have this one as soon as i opened the box and saw it. i had actually been looking at some almost the same to purchase previously. had no choice on pen style due to blank already haveing been cast as cigar blanks. but i did choose the click style for 3 reasons. it is one of my personal favorites, i thought the color scheme would look good on the blanks, and since it is a click the alignment will stay together which can be a problem with twists. i am pretty sure that this was alumalite. turned like a dream. no problems with turning and polishing. turned, sanded with 320 and 600 grit, wet. then MM thru 12000, wet, and Hut Ultra Gloss.

Here are a couple of shots of the whole pen.

now some close ups of the top and bottom
texas top.jpg texas bottom.jpg

I did get a crack when pressing the nib section into the pen and had to remove and repair with CA. the close up here looks much worse than the actual pen does in person.

enjoy pics, comments good and bad will be greatly appreciated.

If you pm me your address I will send a replacement.

Thats a beautiful pen! I make the blanks and it never crossed my mind to put one on the click version. I really like the looks of it.

Blank #2

Well here is the pen for the second blank i took from the box. I wanted a pen that would leave some meat on the tube after turning. The civil War pen is good for that. Besides, i thought the color combination would look good as well. I think it turned out pretty good. Comments and criticism please.

Thanks Buzzzz4, blank turned great. Only tiny holes showed up during the turning and polishing. I believe they were all inside the cones and easily filled.
The wife really drooled when she saw it last night.

Looks good Charley. Speaking of blanks. I promise I will get it out. I was trying to cast some good ones, but the weather has not co-operated with me. I can throw in some cast offs that will be good for segmenting and slimlines.

With the box heading around, I want to take a short PSA to review the process of the Castaway Box.

1. Please do your best in turning around the box within 3 business days. If you don't have blanks ready to go, then refrain from speaking up if your name is called. Everyone will get a chance to participate.

2. Please choose 3-5 blanks and replace what you have taken as equally as you can.

If we can stick to these basics, then all will have equal choices and the box should fly through the list.

Please contact me with questions.
Thanks!

MY wife will get me a box today and I will get it in the mail Sat. or Monday.
All I need is a name and address. WHO GETS TO BE NEXT!

First to speak up gets it. Please only speak up if you are ready to get it and are able to turn it around in a timely manner.

Thanks!
