The first one of these was confiscated by SHMBO. This is #2 in the series...acrylic with an 16-spiral Pen Wizard basket weave embellishment.

Hey Ed,

May I suggest that you also indicate what gearing you used for your pens? That way, as more patterns are shown by you and others, the rest of the owners and watchers will get a handle on HOW a different look can come from the same machine.

Just a thought, as always, you are welcome to ignore!!!!

Oh, and GREAT pen. Your lines are sure clean!!

Ed D, you certainly have mastered that gadget!!! :biggrin:But is it possible to set the stops on the PW so that the end of the cuts don't overlap? (clip end )

From your video's it appears that the cutter tilts into the blank rather than lowering into it. If this is true, does it leave a mark/cut as it goes in or out?

Ed B, not trying to be mean, but Ed D's videos are top class. Do you really need to make another one?

Many of the chapters are talking about demos of the PenWiz as part of their program. I thought the vid of one of these meetings MIGHT help, but I"m not married to the idea!

Nice job Ed. I can see why it got confiscated, The overlap on the finial end looks like hearts, and with the chosen color looks good.

That little cross (hearts) of the spiral cuts on the clip-end is totally configurable. The stops can be easily adjusted to make the terminated spiral intersections look any way you want.

As for which gear combination was used on the pink acrylic pen (above)...12 on the primary, 40 on the secondary and 32 on the mandrel shaft, yielding about one complete spiral rotation per inch.

Note that there are eight different gears that come with the Wiz. They can be used in combinations of either 2 or 3 gears. That means there are around 16,777,216 possible gearing combinations...but I could be wrong about that

Here's another one, in Pink Ivory. It has two spirals in each direction and is using the most aggressive spiraling possible with the gears supplied...32 on the primary and 40 on the mandrel shaft, yielding 3.2 rotations per inch. Pretty cool, huh...

Thank-you Ed!!

The rotations per inch is VERY helpful and shows how you can "flatten out" a pattern.

Mr. Beall's instruction sheet shows about 8 possible configs of the gears, but I have not tried to dream up any other combinations, so I, also, have no idea how comprehensive it is.

Those cuts are really clean, too. Are you using the same bit, in both of the above, still the 1/32"?
