Hey all.
I thought about the Pen Mandrel Saver, but for every 1 or 2 great stories, are 1-2 bad reviews.

As a newbie, I need something simple.

So, considering turning between centers as an option, however...

There are no inexpensive Dead Centers for MT1 in my area. Checked some online stores and either couldn't find, or the shipping was $26 etc...

Anyone got any leads?

Many thanks

----ps- anyone suggest an adjustable mandrel even without the Saver unit if I decide to just go conventional ?

Hey all

Yeah, BusyBee doesnt stock.

Found one place that can order them, but it's like $16+tax for a basic metal one

Looking into the other suggestions, thanks

Wherever you purchase, I would recommend getting the
carbide tipped model if you are turning between centers.
I have had plenty of personal experience with the non-carbide tip centers
and "factory" bushings when I began the journey and found the centers to
get grooved/damaged slightly from the bushings. About the same as you have
probably seen on your factory live center tip from a mandrel...
This damage will lead to things locating off center if it is raised, as in a "burr" sticking up.
The carbide tip is only a little more, and lasts several times longer,
in my experience, so it was a better buy for me. YMMV!

Hi Jim,

Ask your local tool store if they deal with KAR Industrial, a Canadian company based in Montreal. They have MT1 Carbide dead centres for about $12. See pages C7 and C8 KAR Industrial Inc. : Catalog. Go to their website for other catalogues, as they have good prices on reamers etc. I just ask my local store here in Hamilton ON to order things for me and then pick the items up at the store.

If you have a 60degree live center and dead center, do you need special bushings to turn between centers? I would think you do but just wanted to make sure and where can I get some for 7mm?
