If anyone in my area of the world - around Madisonville, TN - was expecting anything in the mail yesterday, it may be late....
I ran into Madisonville to pick up a hutch that I saw at a local recycle shop and plan to use in my booth... on the way home, I was tooling along at my usual 45 mph on the back country roads.... a little blue car ran up behind me and seemed a little anxious to get around me... he tried twice to go around, but with on coming traffic he was forced back behind me.... then suddenly he decided it was time... we were in a long stretch, down hill and with double lines in the road, but not to deter a determined passer... he popped out from behind me and sped up, only to discover that there was another car on coming and almost even with my front bumper.... brakes squealed and cars slid but to no avail... they collided head on, just as I passed the oncoming car... she evidently veered right so that she went to the ditch... the oncoming car was a local mail person, loaded with mail and making her route... the blue car was driven by a 16 year old boy and another 16 year old in the passenger seat.
By the time I got stopped and turned around, the passenger was up and off the pavement - evidently he was thrown out - the mail car was jammed up in the ditch and the lady driving was crying in great pain... the boys didn't appear to be hurt, but because of their age, the investigating officers and emt's sent them to the hospital... it took an hour to get the mail lady out of the car... they removed the windshield, rear window, cut the passenger door off the car, then cut the top off the car and finally were able to extract her... she was in great pain, screaming and complaining of her hip... I'm afraid she may have broken it or her pelvic or something really serious.
This is evidently a pretty bad stretch of road... seems to be regular accidents along here... about 3 more seconds and the blue car could have passed me safely - or at least a little safer and not totaled their car or the mail car. Kids in such a hurry with life...
