This little guy fell out of his nest yesterday and Kyra (one of our female Siberians) planted herself next to the fence where he was and wouldn't let the others get to him. Mommy arranged for his rescue and I arrived home to find him in a box and COLD. Moved him to the bathroom and turned on the heater and wrapped him in a fresh from the dryer towel. Got some puppy formula and checked on him once every hour or so.

He hasn't eaten much, but as he has warmed up he has gotten more wriggly when I pick him up.

We are hoping to reintroduce him to the nest on Saturday (I'd do it sooner, but I'm not climbing ladders after dark). HIS mommy was out in her tree late last night which isn't the norm for these guys. Lillian is calling the vet today to see if they have any better food ideas.

Not sure mom will accept him with all those funky people and dog smells. Might be a good idea to call the zoo or a local ranger. Little guy's really cute.

It will be interesting to hear what the vet says. Like you said to find one out of the nest without their mother near by isn't normal. For an animal that can't run in a straight line for more than 10' without changing it's mind they are good parents.

I'm more worried about Mom attacking me as I try to get him back up there. If nothing else I'm sure one of the girls at the vet will take him in. Our Dr. has a daughter about 13, she'll snag him I bet.

mom wants him back. She was close by but couldn't get to him because of the dogs (she mocks them so they don't like her too much) And he was too weak from the cold to be able to do anything to help. Last night I saw her in the tree after dark.

I think if we can keep him warm and safe for the next day or so, she may take him back.

The research I did talked about his temp needing to be high enough so she wouldn't think he's dead or another critter. Smell apparently isn't high on their list of priorities.

Mommy took him back in today.

She hasn't been seen since Friday Morning at all. Usually she teases the dogs several times a day.

Didn't see her at all this morning. Finally got her to poke her head out this afternoon. and brought the little guy out. She disappeared again. After about 10 minutes I got out the ladder and put him about a foot from the nest. He started climbing and went up the wrong limb. I took the ladder down and went in, through the garage and around the corner of the house. I hear him make a squeal and suddenly she rushes over and inspects him, grabs him and stuffs him back in the nest.

Since then she's back to herself bouncing around the tree and driving the pups nuts.

Odd thing though, she keep coming down close when I go out and looking straight at me holds one paw over her heart as if to say "thank you". Maybe I'm nuts too. But I swear she keeps doing it.

I'll post the reunion vid on youtube in a few and post a link. You can barely see the little guys tail as she stuffs him home.
