I am a busy guy, and I am not just saying that because it is a cool modern thing to say. I am also not talking about death. No plans to die anytime soon. I would LOVE to be less busy though and lets face it is hard to be too busy when your dead, but I digress. I have two jobs and very little free time. When I do get some unexpected free time it will not be enough time to get into the wood shop, or I will be some place no where near the wood shop. Shop time takes planning, takes commitment, and in the world of priorities right now, very far from the top. So, what does the title have to do with anything? I am lamenting the fact that I can't whip a lathe out of my day pack, work on a pen for a few minutes then put it back in when free time is over, like I do with my water color travel kit, and markers.
My 3.5 x 5.5 inch Winsor and Newton case with four brushes strapped to a 5x8 water color journal is just plain convenient, as are my Prismacolor dual tip markers. They all fit in one outside pocket of my day pack. At work I call it my staff meeting survival kit.
As I was shortening a couple of brushes last night I was thinking it would be great if I could make a pen on the run like I smear paint on paper. Maybe I will get some extra tubes from Exotics prep them and paint them on the run. Not sure how I would keep them from smearing when I dump a wet tube into my pack.
It would be hard to secretly turn a pen at a staff meeting. If the noise did not give it away, the flying shavings would.
