Just a serious reminder why we must all be extremely careful working around our lathes, especially when we work alone with no one near most of the time. PLEASE make sure all loose clothing and long hair can not be entangled in the machine. Do never reach across a rotating lathe and give fate a chance to do you harm. BE CAREFUL!!!:frown::frown:

Such a sad story to hear.First thing I was taught around any moving machine is to respect it.I once knew a girl that got her hair caught in a printing press and it rip her pony tail right out, she was very lucky that day. Prayers are with the family.Such a sad way to die.

Randy, Thank you for the shop tip. It is a sad occurrence . I have become aware of how I have trouble gripping tools, sheets of paper, even drinks. Let us please make Shop Safety our #1 issue. Thank you for sharing with us.

What a senseless loss of life. Heartbreaking...

People rarely realize how quickly a deadly accident such as this can occur. An example that has stayed with me through the years happened in the oil fields of north Texas back in the 80's. I worked up in the derrick (I was 60' up in the air) and it was rig moving day. A truck was winching a 5000 gallon water tank on to the bed of the truck and the cable lifting the tank broke as I was looking down and watching. The tank fell to the ground. The dust bellowed out from that much weight falling and THEN the 3 people standing around the tank jumped back. Fortunately no one was hurt but it really showed me that the accident was done and over before any one could react to it. So all please be super careful when working with your equipment. This tragic event could happen to your family if you are careless for a second. And this tragic accident could have been avoided with a little more concern for safety.

And yes Timebandit, I putt this on here for your benefit also. Keep the dreadlocks tied back and away from the moving equipment. 1 serious accident in your life was enough for me and don't want to see you hurt again. I'm just saying. Love you too.

Never take moving machinery for granted. I knew a young lady that lost a finger on a lathe. She was told to by her boss. to sand some 1 1/2" battery barrels (for oil instruments) to clean them up. He neglected to tell her to "NOT" use gloves! I was the one to deliver the finger to the hospital although it could not become re-attached because the machine basically ripped the finger off carring tendons, etc up to her forearm.
Guys/Gals, be careful out there.
