Here is a pen I crafted using a generic WWII nose art graphic. This "Jolly Witch" graphic was designed by ChatGPT, and the label cast was created by Drop Anchor Creations on glossy paper.
I used a Diamond Knurl Rollerball kit in gunmetal plating, paired with a "GUN METAL BESPOKE PEN ROD" blank from Pen Kit Mall.
A bit of history: Why the natural-metal finish?
During the early years of WWII, U.S. Army Air Forces bombers were typically painted for camouflage, with Olive Drab on the upper surfaces and Neutral Gray on the underside.
By 1944, many American bombers were leaving the factory without camouflage paint, exposing their natural aluminum skin. Eliminating the paint saved weight, reduced production time, and slightly improved performance. As Allied air superiority increased, camouflage also became less important.
