Unless you need something quick and WC is nearby...

You can get better prices through the vendors right here.

My closest WC is 80 miles away, so just the cost of petro prohibits the drive.
Then there's lunch, taking the wife to the mall, etc. You can see where this ends up... my tool money, not going for tools or pen supplies.

I don't know about that. Would not bet on it. By the way the Sierra circuit board kits are $15. That is not too shabby.

But spending a day with the wife watching her enjoy herself has to be worth it. Besides, how many pens has she helped you sell over the years.

They do have Ligthum Vitea blanks on sale for .99 She might let you get one!

I am lucky enough to have a Woodcraft nearby. I like having a great selection of hardwoods that I can go peruse in person. I usually find that their sales are pretty decent, and compared to waiting for internet ordering (which I mostly do), there is that "instant gratification" factor!

The personnel in my store is really helpful. A couple years ago I bought the 14" Powermatic bandsaw on sale, which also included the riser kit. They sold it without the shipping markup which I had been told would be added. They were out of the Powermatic semi truck toy, but contacted the factory, and had it for me in a few weeks. (I saved it for a future grandson, but now have two granddaughters, so it may go to them ...)

I occasionally visit Rockler on trips to Denver, but overall I think I've gotten more deals at Woodcraft.

Thats about the best price I've seen on those... However, thats pretty much a rarity to be cheaper than the berea resellers that are vendors here (for the most part its pretty much every 3rd kit is 'free' when you compare prices between them and WC for any of the pen kits that don't include a blank like the circuit board). Then you throw in the freebies that some of them are famous for!

Now that being said, I do support both the WC nearest me (about 25 miles away) and the one in Milwaukee that houses our local IAP chapter. Even though I won't get too many pen kits from them, they get plenty of sales on other fronts.

Like anything else - you need to be a smart shopper.

On the other hand - I have the same problem as Dozer.. That 25 mile trip puts the wife in the biggest mall in the area right a block away from WC.

I visit WC in Columbus here quite a bit. I actually just had then pull all my receipts and print a list of what I purchased since Jan 2010 to current. lol lets just say what I figured in my head was about less than half of what it actually was. :) My Wife had sticker shock when reading the printout. :)

I like the folks at this WC. They are helpful and knowledgeable. However I wish their prices would be a bit lower on almost everything. Somethings have actually raised in the last six months.

I am stopping by this weekend to pick up some hoses and adapters for a Dust Collector I finally was able to get.

Basically they are doing 10% off everything in the store including power tools except certain brands. Sawstop, Festool, Fein. Certain things are 15%. I know a-lot of accessories and pen kits fall in the 20% range.
