I usually use a CA finish on Eugene's amalgam-mutt blanks but I want to try sometime different. Has anyone tried Wood Turners Finish on one of Eugene's Banksia Nut Pod or other amalgam-mutt blanks?

I just wonder how the General finish would adhere to the acrylic portion of the blank?

Thanks,

Wade

I've used WFT on blanks similar to what you described. It does fine if you're looking for a basic seal of the wood portions but I found that it just never looked right layered up on the acrylic part.

So what I did was build it up on the wood portions, fill any gaps or low spots but sand it down enough that it didn't layer on the acrylic portion.

This works if you start the process while the blank is slightly oversized. This way as you sand down you can get it back to the raw acrylic without sanding it too thin.
