Since there have been so many questions throughout the past few years about this subject I wanted to share this link with all of you. It has a good list of the various woods and the toxic effects that they can cause. I have bookmarked on my computer and use it frequently to see what might happen so I am prepared if I get a reaction from a wood that I am turning.
Hope that it is helpful.

Cindy Thanks a million , that's about the best compilation of toxic woods I've seen so far, , the whole web site is great, lots of good information. Also some scarry stuff about the endangered species and our friend CITES

Cindy, I also want to thank you very much for furnishing this chart. I have identified some woods I have used, and their associated issues. I will take more precautions now.

Great link!

Also don't forget that minor sensitivites and allergies can and often do get worse over time.

African blackwood now will iritate my hands in about 5 seconds where it didn't used to. Most wood allergies are reactions to the quinnones in the wood and you don't have to be allergic to quinnine to have a reaction to wood.
