Our dining room table is barely fit for an 18 year old's first apartment. I told my wife I was going to build one whether she wanted it or not. After giving me the "I am SWMBO, hear me roar" raised eye brow, she said it has to match the chairs. She loves the chairs. I am not so fmiliar with wood that I can identify them beyond them being Oak. I called the place we bought them from to see if it is red or white oak. The manager said they were Oak. When I said what kind he said oak is oak. So I am now asking you folks for help.

What type of oak is this? Took one picture with the flash on and one with it off. I will be picking up wood for the table next week if I know what kind it is.

One thing is with that many staves and to not have any rays visible in a piece of production furniture..... pretty much eliminates white oak.

Second is the second pic shows a hint of reddish color that kinda points in that direction.

You can go and spend some time over at hobbithouse woods to see more pics, it is hard to tell especially if there is a coat of stain/varnish. a definitely way is to cut a small piece. One the pores will act like a straw and the other won't
