Wood Gloat :-)

I got an awesome score. I was lucky enough to get a piece of this historic tree. "The Senator" was the oldest Bald Cypress tree when it was destroyed by fire on January 16, 2012. It was estimated to be between 3,400 & 3,600 years old!

I was only able to get a small piece of it, a limb actually. About 3 feet long and about 1 1/2 inches at its widest diameter. The pic is not great and it looks like it is cracked but it is just some of the bark that is coming off of it.

I had to submit an application for it and wait for several months before I even heard an answer, but I got it for free!!!!

I am hoping to get several pens out of it.

Wow, that is great. How does a guy from Sanford get part of that tree. Is there a form.
It was a real shame it was started on fire.
Gloat on my friend. Please provide us with a photo when you complete the pen.
Maybe even a showing for us local central Florida people. We can have cheese and drinks.

Have you zipped it yet. We need a pen chapter in Orlando area. Scott at WC said we could use his store.

Tom, as far as I understand all of the pieces are spoken for. There was an article in the paper and they talked about it on the radio(Real Radio). And yeah I've thought about a local pen chapter here also. I know Scott is open to it and I live less than a mile from the store. I haven't zipped it yet, just brought it home today. They gave me a nice certificate as well.
