Thanks for the list.

I see they dont mention Tamboti (African Sandalwood) which is probably the most poisonous wood we have here and which is used extensively for furniture. Its sap can kill you and cooking on its coals will make you sick as a dog.

The dust is guaranteed to give you a serious 5 day migraine if not put you in hospital.

Great information, I know I was turning a monkey pod blank and couldn't stop coughing. It may have just been the fine powder like dust it makes.
Looking into it now

Dang! I just received some Tamboti from Woodcraft, which was on sale. No mention whatsoever about handling.

I bookmarked these, and willl print them.

Looks like pine and fir are OK ... maybe I'll go get some 2x4s from Home Depot.

Randy, When, and how did you find about this list, since when I was trying to put together the IAP wood chart i tried to google and couldn't find these kind of lists and i don't remember any other members mentioned anything about these list. They are pretty much in line with what I was trying to gather. well, I am glad that there are something like this out there.

Terry, I can appreciate the info., but it makes me think if it is so poisonous then how do they make furniture out of it without sending someone to the hospital? And, if they do, then the cost of that furniture should be prohibitive?

This is Africa my friend - here anything goes. It is not used commercially because of the cost, mostly made to order by carpenters and obviously the necessary precautions are taken when working with it.

The general rule of thumb we use here is that if its sweet smelling then its probably not very good for you.
