I was pulling my hair out because my brand new pen mill was not turning true in the chuck of my drill press. To make a long story short and leaving out the expletives along the way, I finally discovered that the new pen mill shaft had a flat for the set screw that ran all the way up the shaft into the cuck jaws.

There was no way that I could turn or position it to turn true when chucked.

My old pen mill shaft only has the flat where the setscrew will be and it's round the rest of the way up. I put my new mill on my old shaft and it's fine.

Don't know if you've run into this...but there ya have it.

Ken

I have the same type mill and experienced the same thing as you Ken. However, I am able to position the mill inbetween the chuck jaws on my DP, and so I am very careful to do that each time I install it.
