after getting a pretty good scare when I stepped on the scale the other day (it REALLY wanted to start with a 3), I am officially on a diet. Good friends of mine have recently started the Medfast system and dropped 30+ (him) and 25 (her) in less than three months so I chose it as well.... three days in and the food's actually not that bad! and I get to eat a "real" dinner with my family. My goal is to lose 50lbs over the next 9 - 12 months...thoughts and prayers appreciated...I know I'm weak when it comes to chips and fries!

20 down! life is good!

Good luck to you. It can be done. My wife and I each have lost over 35 pounds since February. Keep us posted so we can celebrate some of the weekly goals with you.

Well I can only say is food is not the main focus per-say. gotta work out too. A casual walk around the block is good.

If this means anything, I have stopped drinking anything with High Fructose corn syrup. So far I have dropped from a 42 inch waist to 38 in side of 2 months.

Jon,

Good luck, you can do it! Just think of all the medical complications you can potentially avoid. I have the same weakness so I know where you are coming from. I'll keep you in my prayers.

John

Good luck to you. Losing weight is like stopping drinking-One Day At A Time. I have lost 58 lbs since last August and going slowly, lots of fruits, veggies and water have made all of the difference for me.

Fat Secret

Jon,
My brother lost over 150 lbs in 1 year. He used this website religiously and was determined.
http://www.fatsecret.com/

He started walking 1 hour every day, or every other day, alternating with an elliptical machine. He now owns 3 bikes and bikes everyday. He has completed 2- 60 mile plus rides this summer. He used to be out of breath just walking into the house from his car.

You can do it Jon.
I have seen the proof.

PM me if you have any questions.

I lost 75 in 8 months on a Low Carb diet and walking 6 miles per day has kept the weight off after going off the diet. It's not so much what you eat, it is knowing when to step away from the pig trough.
IMHO, exercise is the key to any diet.

Best wishes Jon. I have lost 24 lbs since the 26th of May (the day I was diagnosed as Type 2 Diabetes). I have done it all on smaller protions and reducing carbs to no mare than 30grams per meal. Any higher and my blood sugar spikes way too high. Had to cut out some foods that I love such as Pasta and potatoes. Hardest part is going out to eat, or traveling. Still spend a lot of time reading labels but it is getting easier. The Dietician I saw was great for learning potion control, but was way on the number of carbs enough that I would be in real bad shape if I followed what they told me I could have.

Set your daily goals for Calories, Fat, Carbs and excersize and stick to the goals.

..I know I'm weak when it comes to chips and fries!

I don't have a weight problem... hovering around 190 at 6'1"... so not too bad... 18 years ago when I married I was at 155, but life has been good...

on your weakness... if they ever stop making chips and salsa... I'm sure my wife and I will starve to death... my wife canned 30 or 40 pints of salsa this year our of tomato garden... they will just barely last until next spring.

Best of luck to you - throwing my support your way.

If I could recommend a book to you, my ortopedic surgeon gave me a copy after a surgury for planters facetious - standing at the lathe hurt! It rocked my world. In addition to losing wieght, I have dropped 100 points off my cholesterol and all my other "numbers" line up perfectly. My GP said I now have the blood chemistry of a 20 year old - I'm pushing 50.

Hope it might help.

Good luck Jon.
I have a friend who within a year ran a full marathon. He started out weighing 350lbs. He just started walking and then started running as much as he could handle. Come marathon time he was at 230.

Come to think of it It would'nt hurt me either.

I've been eating low carb for more than 20 years. One food that has been a lifesaver is, believe it or not, cauliflower. I never even LIKED the stuff, but you can do so much with it. If you steam it and then hit it with a mixer and beat it up it makes an amazing replacement for mashed potatoes. Chop it fine and it makes rice. Mix it up with some eggs and press it out on a pan and it makes pizza crust. It has almost no flavor of its own, and picks up the flavor of what you put it in. It makes great fried "rice", for example. Give it a try. It is almost all fiber, so there are very few calories or carbs in it.

Also, Dreamfields Pasta is a great replacement for regular pasta.

update time....happy scale today said I have dropped 35 pounds/16 kilos/2 stone!

I just signed on as a "health coach" with Take Shape for Life (the plan I have been using, and losing with). if you are interested.... www.glad2BaLoser.tsfl.com

This is the first "diet" I have been on that both worked and didn't make me suffer!

Update time

survived the holidays with minimal damage and hit the 1st "magic number" today. I am down 56 pounds to 240. Yeah, I lost a full sized sack of potatoes that I have been hauling around for the last few years! Feeling great and now have a goal of 225 for summertime! Thanks for the encouragement!

If you are interested: www.glad2baloser.tsfl.com. Medifast and it works!

Jon, Keep up the good work. Your success is very inspiring. I am going "on the wagon" too. I am starting at 260. Keep fighting the good fight and I will see you if the NOVA/WASH chapter gets back together.

Keep up the weight loss, but don't lose the brisket recipe. You can watch us eat it at the next picnic.

I still get to eat real food! (had Bison short ribs for dinner last night) just need to watch the portions!

Jon, not only are we impressed, but we are very happy for you. You are going to start feeling ten years younger. Way to go.

more like 20! my knees haven't felt this good since before my 1st knee surgery!

I did try the old "basement couture" but was sufficiently embarrassed by what I found to nix that idea right away! 10 more pounds and I go shopping (did buy a couple of pairs of cheap jeans and a belt to hold me over!)

I just realized, that you initially said that you wanted to loose 50# in 9-12 months. You did it in less than 2-1/2 months. You can officially go from over-eater to overachiever! I am even more impressed now.
