Why do YouTube "uploads" take so long?

I mentioned that my last 8 minute YouTube took over an hour to upload.

I remember when they uploaded REALLY quickly, so I did some research to see what their current volume is. I ran across a couple VERY impressive (to me) statistics that I thought may interest many of you, as well.

IN 60 SECONDS, ONE MINUTE
SEVENTY TWO HOURS of YouTube is uploaded
Two hundred MILLION emails are sent (then there's FaceBook, Twitter, etc)
And, most interesting to me: 750 new websites are set up.

Talk about phenomenal GROWTH!!!!

Your ISP may provide a much slower upload speed relative to download speed.
Most options around here offer upload @ 1 Mbps vs download at up to 50 Mbps.
 
With all of the trash being passed around on the social media (facebook - twitter etc) I'm amazed that anyone can find anything. My neice (for instance) uploads to facebook every picture of a stray dog she can find on any of about a dozen websites. A friend takes a picture of every dish she is preparing for her and her husband's next meal. And on and on.
