For the information of newer members here and for those (like me) who did not know a LOT about Russ, here is the copy of his published, public obituary:

"Russ" Fairfield was born to parents Louis Russell Fairfield Sr. and Mabel Estella Olson in Silverdale, Wash.

He graduated from Central Kitsap High School in 1953 and an apprenticeship at Puget Sound Navel Shipyard in 1957. He served three years in the U.S. Army, then attending the University of Washington graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering.
He married in 1962 to Lorraine (Sieber) Fairfield, having two daughters Anita Fairfield of Mukilteo, Wash., and Teresa (Fairfield) Field of Redmond, Wash., all of which survive him in addition to a grandson, Simon Preston Field.
He married his surviving wife, Gerry Fairfield in 1995. They have resided in Post Falls since 2000. In retirement, Russ became an accomplished wood turner. With Internet columns, magazine articles, classes, demonstrations and several show pieces, Russ loved to share his knowledge of the wood turning craft.
A memorial service will be take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at Community Presbyterian Church, 417 Williams St., Post Falls. An additional celebration of Russ' life will be held on the Kitsap Peninsula this spring.

Ed, thank you for passing this on. I too was unaware of Russ's personal life...all I knew was he was an incredible wood turner and generous man, based on the stories.

I should mention that I was given this information by a very good friend. So, while I posted it, I can't take credit for finding it.

Thanks to my "helper"!!!
