What is the best finish for whitetail antler? I was thinking of doing CA like I do on most of my other pens, just without the BLO. Here's the process. Those of you that have worked with antler, let me know what you think. Thanks!

MM to 12000

2 coats of thin

MM to 12000

3 coats of medium

MM to 12000 after each one

Coat of trade secret for wood.

I don't put anything on antler, usually. If I run into marrow I'll drizzle some thin CA on it, let dry and sand. I usually sand with 600 and then MM through 12000. Sometimes I'll get a piece that I think would benefit from a CA finish but usually it shines up real good with just MM. I ESPECIALLY don't put anything on it if I have bark showing.

Same here, in fact, I'm pretty sure rherrell suggested this finish to me.

The antler has such a natural shine, I see no need for CA unless you hit marrow.
