Where Does Masur Birch Grow ? ?

I got a stabilized blank of masur birch as a freebie with an online order of parts. I had never heard of that kind of birch before and I am wondering where in the world those trees grow just in case somebody asks when looking at this pen.There are lots of birch trees where I live but they are mostly white birch. I have never seen any birch wood around here that looks like this.
This is one of those pieces where a picture just doesn't do it justice . It is probably the nicest wood I have turned a pen with so far.

Masur Birch is from Europe... some of the nicest I have seen have come from the Scandanavian Countries..
