Well tonight I gave my first pen demo. It went ok I think.. I mighta got a little long winded and gave too much detail, but with some practice, I think I can streamline it a bit.

I was proud of myself though. I'd organized my "stuff" well enough that I didn't have to search or fumble for any tools or parts because I knew exactly where they were...

And everything went off without a hitch... except for the CA glue finish I'd been practicing on for a month. I sanded right through it...

I'll have to post pix later.. I'm bushed after all day at work, a two hour demo, and coming home and unpacking all the equipment (my drill press included) in the rain...

I hope they learned something. My process is still in evolutionary mode. As I find problems with it I'm modifying it. I know I have learned a lot.

Some folks went home early. Guess they'd seen it all, or I bored them to death....

One guy who is a bowl/hollow form turner said that I confirmed that he didn't want to turn pens.... Too tedious for him.. He wanted big stuff with lots of chips flying everywhere...

It was an AAW Chapter meeting.

I'm not nearly advanced enough to give a demo for our Penturning Chapter. Hee... Those guys must have turned thousands of pens, and I probably haven't turned 100 pens yet... I don't even think I've bought that many kits...

Just sharing what I've learned. Yeah it was fun. Well.. Except for that part about unloading my press in the rain. :frown: Hope it didn't rust. I sprayed it down with WD40 before I went in...

Wow, better you than me. I already do not like public speaking but to give a demo in front of folks that could very well know so much more than me...... That would drive me to :drink::drink::drink::drink:

Heh... guess I'd have been nervous if I hadn't planned it out and practiced so much. I also just treated it like it was a day in the shop with friends... Much more relaxing that way. Still it's a relief to have that behind me. Pretty much spent the weekend getting ready...
