Hi all, got this board in a craigslist deal. Seller threw it in to sweeten the deal, he says Mahogany and I agree it looks like Mahogany. The type is unknown. On the side you can see how fuzzy it is which makes me think Honduran but I could see African or Santos too. I don't have a ton of experience with any of it and the seller didn't know.

Thanks for the help!

Hi Warren.

I have little to add to the identification, but...

Last weekend I was in Chicago (moving a son), and I visited a Menard's Lumberyard/Store. They had a small section of sanded wood - (ie: Red Oak; Poplar, etc). And: Mahogany. the boards were reasonable - $16.00 for 6" x 1" x 6' (I believe). Enough to cut 72 pen blanks... or just play!

Well. They had 4 boards, 2 had the same color, the other were totally different. The grain pattern was all similar, but for 4 boards, I had 3 colors??? I took all four; maybe make some "Mahogany segmented blanks with 3 colors".

Should be interesting.

Warren i have a small potion of what I was told was santos Mahogany. The color looks just like what you have. But like Mark said the color can vary.
Not sure this is any help.

Hey Perry,
The color is what made me lean towards santos....I read that it has a spicy scent, took 150 grit to the board and not too spicy so it threw me off even more. I may have to expose the end grain a little better this weekend to see what it looks like.
