I got two El Toro FP kits from BB and this piece is in both kits, but the instructions say nothing about it. It will snap over the nib, but I can't see that there's any way to use it. Any ideas?

That is exactly what it does, snaps over the nib to protect the nib during shipping and handling. This piece is discarded and not used in assembly. I save them like the I save plastic bags, dunnowhy []

I'd save it too, one never knows when you will need a white plastic doo-jerky type of thingy.
