What is this wood?!?!

Everyone likes it, including me! I have made several pieces of jewelry and one pen with this type of wood, but both times the wood was given to me. I would love to know what it is! I am thinking cocobolo, but I can't find anything with near this kind of color in my area. Thanks for the advice everyone!

sure looks like cocobolo to me. There are different varieties of cocobolo, so perhaps you're just not used to the darker one...

I may be mistaken, but I think that Mexican cocobolo is the darker variety

I am going to have to add in that it is Cocobolo as well. I've cut blanks from larger and it can go from brilliant reds and oranges to dark browns.

I've noticed that when i turn cocobolo, that the inside is usually lighter in color and darkens with UV exposure

Thanks everyone! I had also noticed the change with light and the color scale possibilities from the two pieces I had been given.

I get my Cocobolo from Costa Rica and the color varies so greatly it is almost unbelievable. But the color you show is one possibility and the grain looks like coco.
