I thought this was some amboyna but I am not so sure? Any ideas about what it is?

Might need to throw a few 'bones' out to us....

#1: Did it have any special odor(s) while turning?
#2: Pretty hard on the density? Or just so-so, kind of medium?
#3: Where did it come from(do you remember the vendor)?
#4: Is the color actually light brown(or is my old guy eyes seeing something different)?

Nicely turned, and the fit-n-finish look great!

This wood smells like pencil shavings, I have smelled this wood before

Only just so so on density.

HAHA I don't get wood from vendors. I got this from Alton.

The color is true as in the image.

If it smelled like pencil shavings, then it definitely is not amboyna. Amboyna has a wonderful (to me anyway) and distinctive smell. It might be mesquite. That was my initial thought when I first looked at it. Was it hard?

I run into the "what kind of wood is that" question kind of often...

When I forget what wood it was, I just tell 'em "tree"!

Thanks

Geo

I realized that this is sitting in a box of Thuya burl. and that is were that smell is coming from. It may be pear wood? Any thoughts on that?
