Sounds like a dumb question but I had forgotten that fiberglass catalyzes with MEKP, smells just like PR resin, and seems to have similar properties other than color.

Is fiberglass resin basically a modified PR? I'd assume it's altered for water and UV resistance considering it's applications most of the time.

Is it any use for stabilizing or casting (aside from the dark amber color)?

while i was waiting on my order from mr. fiberglass i bought a gallon from home depot.i can't tell the difference except for it's brownish tint.i used it all before i started on the other.same price,no shipping.:Dron

Chemically they are the same or very similar. PR is actually a blend of polyester resin and styrene monomer (which polymerizes when catalized with MEPK). Differences are in relative concentrations of the chemicals and purity. The thinner the mix, the more styrene, the clearer the more pure. Some of the fiberglass resins are thinner so they can be sprayed.

I know that fiberglass insulation has the reputation for itching the crap out of you--- and rightfully so.

Would dust from fiberglass resin cause the same thing, or just fiberglass mesh/fabric (which would likely not be used in pen making)?

Aw, Modelmaker, I've found PR resin to be a great disinfectant for all those splinters I get in the cabinet shop--- and after you build up a nice patina of resin on your hands, it sorta acts as a glove anyhow[B)]
