what is the difference

I was looking at pen kits and noticed one company states "turns on Ameroclassic mandrel" what is the difference between that and the "standard 7mm mandrel"? I did not realize there were different mandrels. Can anyone help me with this.....

Never heard of the Ameroclassic mandrel, but there is an "A" and "B" mandrel.
"A" is the standard 7mm, and "B" (as far as I know) is slightly bigger diameter. I've noticed some kits (bushings) require the "B" mandrel.

Easy way around this, turn between centers.

Seems that there are A and B mandrels out there. A's are common for smaller diameter pens, B's are for larger diameters of pens. The claim is that you need a heavier mandrel for the mass of larger pens. All suppliers claim theirs are different in size but they can typically be sized:

Typical Mandrel Diameter Sizes
A - .247 Dia.
B - .291 Dia.

Not sure who sells the Ameroclassic mandrel but my guess would be it's a B mandrel. Let us know what you find out.

The Ameroclassic mandrel is HUT Product's name for the Berea B mandrel. I actually didn't know HUTwas still in business. Bushings for the ameroclassic kit sold by HUT can be found that will fit the A mandrel.
