polyoxybenzylmethylenglycolanhydride actually had an early form of another product that was sold in kits. However, since the phenol base was flammable, these were discontinued.

Modern versions of the compound are based on the compound that was brought to attention in the late '30's.

The formulation was later sold and marketed as the product we all know today.
