I picked this up at my favorite hardwood dealer Saturday. I have never seen anything like it. Curly eucalyptus.

It's 5 3/4" wide by 36" long. I am terrified to cut this puppy, since as soon as I do, I'll think of something else I should have done with it.

I'm thinking either make some really high end pen boxes out of it, or something similar. Either way there's gonna be some pen blanks that come out if it, I assure you that!

Here is a close up. The pic doesn't do it justice.

Cut one crosscut blank, one bias-cut blank, & one straight-cut blank.
See if they maintain the curl. IF so, make some pens and boxes.
IF NOT, make boxes; resaw it for thinner boxes (3/8" sides) and box lids.
If finished pens don't maintain the curl, it'd be a crime to turn it into pen blanks.
It's too pretty to lose that look.

I know the only way I will cut that is straight...NOT biased or cross-cut.

I agree that you have to try and make a few pens first before cutting it all...but doubt that you will have any problem with it. It is YUMMY!!!![^] Need my address??? [}:)]

lay a 5" blank along the board for another picture so we can see the "curl density" we would get on a blank. I might be interested if it is tight enough.

ps that would make a GORGEOUS jewelry box for your significant other.
