I bought an old craftsman 12" bandsaw (another thread) and was looking for thoughts and opinions for what would be the best blades to buy for it--mostly resawing.

Thanks,

John

Hi John,
Opinions will very, but my advice is to contact Suffolk Machinery via phone. Tell them what saw you have and what kind of sawing you will be doing and use the blade they suggest. They sell Timberwolf blades at great prices and even have a buy 3 get one free deal going. Check out the website at http://www.suffolkmachinery.com . You have to call to order unless they have added a shopping cart since the last time I bought blades.

Do a good turn daily!

A 12" bandsaw is far from ideal for resawing. I once had one of those old (at least, mine was old) 12" C'man bs and it was woefully underpowered.
But, to address your question, I would say a 3/8"X6tpi. A 3/8"X4tpi would also be good for resawing but not much else. The six tooth would be very versitile.

I used one of those for many years and resaw was not a feature that it was good at. Low power and even with changed pulleys for higher torque (at loss of speed), it was good mainly for simple work. There was not much height for resaw even on a good day.

I mainly ran 1/4 inch bimetalic blades on it for general cutting -- and blades lasted a long long time. Lennox makes such blades in that size -- they are much more expensive but last and will cut brass and aluminum.
