I bought a tub of turning tools off craigslist. In the bottom, I found these critters, and I don't know what they are or what they're for.

The "blade" on all of them is stamped with a logo and the word, "FRANKE" on a round logo. One is also marked "Gr. 3,2" and the rest are marked "Gr. 2,3" (with the first number larger).

They don't seem to have any particularly sharp edges (or apparently sharpened/sharpenable edges).

The first photo -of the whole set - includes a Navigator pen for scale. Second photo is a closeup of the business end.

So, any clue what these are?

Might try posting picture over at woodnet.net in woodworking hand tools section.

Not sure they are turning tools, would see if could turn beads with them. Do not look like any beading tool ever saw, still would give it a go. Could they be used for making model toy tires? Looks like could size and scrap something round like that.

Since doubt they are made of HSS would attempt to hone them with slip stones or diamond hones by hand. If do not have any of that good stuff would try using sandpaper to get an edge on them using wood block & dowels.

Those are E clip inserting tools.

Unlikely to be ever used by a woodworker. Fitters and mechanical electricians use them to fit E clips in difficult to reach places.
Most times we use just a pair of long nosed pliers though.

The numbers are for the different sized E-clips they are for.

Thanks. So for me, they are my new stubby narrow parting tools, just as soon as I take a hacksaw to them. :)

That is the one tool my father-in-law did not have in his box that I dreamed of. In fact I was told there was no such thing as an E-clip tool. God I hated trying to insert those damn things.

Don't 'take a hacksaw to them' :eek:they are very nice tools and to have individual wooden handles probably means they are good quality.
I'd happily give you $50 plus international postage for them.
Contact me if you are interested.

Then they're yours! I didn't take the hacksaw to them yet. But when I tried to PM you, I got this error:
skiprat has chosen not to receive private messages or may not be allowed to receive private messages. Therefore you may not send your message to him/her.

If you are trying to send this message to multiple recipients, remove skiprat from the recipient list and send the message again.

So how would you like me to contact you?
