Cut 200 pen blanks this afternoon. Wetsaw, diamond blade. YUUUUccckk.

But for those who wonder why I am on-line on the weekend, I sure wouldn't want a mess like this at my HOME.

See ya'all tomorrow!!

The same question ran through my mind along with the question about what kind of tools you would need to turn blanks that have to be cut with a diamond saw??

We mold the blanks in sheets, nearly 7/8" thick. My tablesaw rebelled after the first hundred, I had never seen a sawblade do a dance like that!!!

I don't have a great bandsaw (have 2, but neither will cut 18 times straight and we get 18 blanks from a "form".

So, we tried a wetsaw with diamond blade. The blanks look really nice all the way around. But, it is a mess.

Jim, in the words of one of my favorite people, "It didn't happen if it ain't got pics!!" So, as soon as we get the blanks all cleaned and packaged, I will show a pic. Turned a green one (olive pearl) last night - it's a beaut! Unfortunately, I have only TN gold kits, so until I replenish my kit stock you won't see a lot of pens from me - they are getting turned, just not assembled!!

Will keep you all informed, most of the blanks are sold, but I will offer the others here in a week or so, if anyone is interested.

5 different ones - none could stand it. From 10" to 8" with 4" disk supports.

Contractor saw, DeWalt (the next question I expect) and on its own circuit. No, it did not "bog down", just scared me - I quit when I get scared. Fifteen years of woodworking and all 10 fingers, still.

Randy,

Left to right vibration - LARGE vibration.

If you ever encounter it, you WILL know it. Tooth count varied as I tried to control, no eliminate, the problem. No luck. Told my "saw guru" at Woodcraft, he laughed and said I was a dummy for trying (we are pretty good friends, he can do this with NO offense taken, by me).

Christmas list:

who's that guy in Pennsylvania that turns pens?????/
Some short name,,,,,,,,,,,,Hmmmmmmmmm.
I no I had him down for something cheesy!!![:)][:)]

Ed I want to see some of that too, I LOVE your acrylics (trying to get a bigger X-Mas gift than William, LOL[;)][:p]

No cheese please!!!!

Heck, Becca, his mice get a better Christmas present than mine! Of course, this time last year some of the guys were planning to turn me a pen from an iron lung, so I guess I shouldn't complain.

BTW, last year I asked my wife if I was eligible to walk in the cancer survivors walk. She told me it was too soon. It might be better to wait until the next walk to see if I was still around! [:0]
