I bought a bunch of cherry burl blanks that were covered with wax. How do I get the wax off so I can put them in my drier and get them dry.
I thought about boiling them.
Any other ideas.

I'd go with MM's way. My first thought was to turn it off on the lathe at slow speed. But I'm sure there is some reason that wouldn't work. haha

I agree with boiling but DON'T grab the first thing handy like the coffee pot you use when going camping, the wax never comes completely out and the pot is ruined for making coffee ever again.

Don't ask how I know this, I'd never be so stupid as to try it!

If they are already cut blanks just use a scraper and scrape the wax off (except for the ends) and let sit in your shop for a few days, then drill and turn as normal.

The blanks are still green so I will tryboiling them and letting them set in the shop. Hope they dont crack. They look like the nicest cherry burl I haave ever had.
Thanks for the info.

cloth and a iron on the back side of the cloth (this works great for getting wax out of carpet as well:biggrin:) The liquid wax gets sucked in to the cloth.
