My wife had to get borax for a Girl Scout science project for our daughter's troop. The list of things this stuff is useful for on the side of the box is amazing! Find it with laundry detergent at the supermarket.
 
Use to be my local grocery stores best customer for Borax when I was blacksmithing.

It is excellent flux for any welding.
